Engagements in the Declaration
Qhapaq Ñan, Andean Road System. New efforts in favor of its sustainable conservation.
Engagements in the Declaration
Prior to the nomination to the World Heritage List, the States Parties signed a series of joint international declarations that highlighted their agreement to protect selected sections in the Qhapaq Ñan, Sistema Vial Andino. The protection established, as a result of these agreements, responds to international criteria, to the respective national legislation on heritage and ensures the highest level of protection for all the components of the property.
As indicated in the Operational Guidelines for the implementation of the World Heritage Convention, serial properties may be within the territory of the same country or of any number of States Parties that share borders, thus being called transboundary properties. In these cases, the nomination must be prepared and presented jointly by the countries involved, establishing joint management mechanisms.
